Spartanburg District 1 DAnce
Spartanburg District 1 Dance is in its 4th year of implementation for the 2019-2020 school year. Dance will be continue to be an extended residency in each elementary school this year. Students in 2nd grade audition for Dance through a performance/improvisation audition and teacher referral process; students who are accepted are invited to take Dance through 8th grade. New students to the district have the opportunity to audition each year as well. Kellianne Floyd and Allie Flagg are the current Dance specialists for the elementary Dance programs. We have now extended our program through 8th grade into our middle schools. Layla Gaddy is our middle school Dance specialist. New students to the district have the opportunity to audition each year as well. We are all working together to continue to build the program each year in the hopes that we will eventually have a full-time Dance specialist in every school within our school district. Dance students will learn elements of various dance techniques including jazz, hip hop, contemporary, and ballet. Students will also be exposed to cultural dances. Students will have opportunities to choreograph their own dances using the elements of dance and principles of design as well. At times during the school year, there will be dance performances for the school community to view both during the school day and at night.
